The Calgary Herald’s Kristen Odland wrote a great piece on the program cuts:
“The decision to cut all funding from the University of Calgary Dinos women’s field hockey and men’s soccer programs came as a total shock to Jenn Swagar.
“We were almost blindsided,“said the women’s field hockey coach who had to break the bad news to her 20-player roster as the decision became public on Wednesday. “There was no notice. There was no lead-up to, ‘you know what, you might be cut. Try and find some alternative funds.’ There was nothing.
“This is just totally inappropriate timing in my mind. (The players) have their last day of classes on Friday . . . now all my girls have been fretting.”“
