The hockey events are underway in Beijing with one day of matches completed on both the men’s and the women’s sides of the tournament. Canada fell to #1-ranked Australia 6-1 in their first pool match but on the positive side, the entire match was broadcast live by CBC and in high definition! To find out when all the matches will be broadcast, either on the CBC network or on their website, just go to the CBCSports.ca full Olympic schedule page, select your location to get the right time zone and filter the schedule to show only field hockey.

CBC will broadcast Canada’s next match against Pakistan on CBCSports.ca and on CBC live starting at 3:49 a.m. Calgary time on Wed. Aug. 13. TSN is going to carry tape-delay coverage the CAN v NED game on their TV network on Friday and CAN v GBR on Saturday, in addition to those matches being live on CBCSports.ca. Just check the TSN schedule for more details.

The coverage of the men’s team has been terrific thus far - it’s important that we reward these broadcasters with our viewership and prove that there’s more than one kind of hockey in our country that we love to play!

To get the best coverage of all the Olympic field hockey action, go to WorldHockey’s Olympic website.

Senior Nationals: Results

FHC’s cornerstone event, the Senior National Championships, wrapped up yesterday at Hawkings Field in Calgary. After some blistering days of heat and fighting a losing battle against mosquitoes, the medal ceremony on Monday was punctuated by ominous lightning strikes and the participants took cover just in time as the skies broke with warm showers. The timing was perfect as the games went without a hitch and the 5 days featured some terrific hockey played by DFHC players.

Three teams representing Alberta were entered and this year and DFHC was well-represented on both South teams. Alberta South 2 finished in 7th with an 0-6 record, Alberta North finished in 5th place at 2-4, and Alberta South 1 narrowly missed out on the Bronze Medal after a strong 4-2 round-robin record but eventually fell to Ontario on a single goal.

Special congratulations go out to Ashley Stewart (Alum) for scoring 6 goals, good for a tie at the top of the leader board, and being named to the Tournament XI. Also, Courtney Campbell’s performance impressed members of the Canadian National Team coaching staff so much she’s been invited to participate in a Junior Development Camp for which she’s flown out to Vancouver today!

Liz Allan (Alum) not only co-captained the Alberta South 1 squad, she acted as Co-Chair for the tournament which made her one incredibly busy person. Emma Guppy was Tournament Chair Assistant and captained the Alberta South 2 team, so she also lived at the pitch for 5 solid days.

Congratulations to all the players who represented Dinos so proudly, and thanks to everyone who volunteered at the technical table and assisted with the Advantage Field Hockey sales stall.
